Bowl Season
Well the bowls have been announced. Hope your team got a bowl and does well (unless your team is Northwestern or Pitt).
For me, MSU gets to play Northwestern in the Gator bowl and Ole Miss gets to play Pitt in the BBVA Compass bowl. The final records determined the bowls both teams got but Ole Miss probably deserved a bit better and MSU a bit worse. Either way I’m hoping both teams have fun and give us some entertaining games. AND WIN!
Any ideas about scores or wins/losses for MSU/UM? I’m picking both to win, but I really don’t know much about their opponents yet.
As for the big game, I’m really looking forward to Alabama vs Notre Dame. This is gonna be a biggie. Everyone in the country has reasons to love or hate these two schools and while my SEC friends and I all think Bama should win this, looking at the schedules I understand why the rest of the country thinks it could be Notre Dame’s year. Bama has had a really soft schedule this year when compared to ND’s. I still think Bama is the better team, and has shown it when playing quality opponents, but they just haven’t had as many quality opponents this year as they normally do.
Bama has beaten 4 ranked teams; Michigan, MSU, LSU and Georgia.
Notre Dame has beaten 4 ranked teams; Michigan St., Michigan, Stanford, and Oklahoma.
The common team was beaten much more soundly by Bama, but lets face it, MSU was a lot weaker opponent than any of the other teams Notre Dame beat. The SEC wins championships because they play the best Defense in the country, but this year Notre Dame has a damn good defense too. I think this year it’s gong to be offense that wins the championship. I think this year Bama wins because they have the better bruising, run offense.

Now we can get back to talking about football
Now that the distraction election is over, we(okay “I” not like anyone comments here) can get back to talking about football. MSU is a loser this weekend, what about Ole Miss? I think they can beat Vandy and be bowl eligible, but I don’t think Vandy is going to be as easy to beat as Auburn.(Never thought I’d ever say that. And I mean EVER.) Ole Miss may have a game on their hands this weekend and I think It’ll be a fun game to watch.
MSU, however, has been wearing clown shoes the last two weeks and I expect that will continue this week against a very pissed off LSU team. I guess State can hope LSU is more depressed than pissed off.
I don’t much like Alabama but I honestly don’t see them losing any games this year, so I guess it’ll be interesting to see who they get as the #2 team in this year’s BCS Championship.
Anyone wanna share their thoughts?
I’m not a betting man, but if I was…
I’d be putting some money down for State to cover against Bama. I’m not surprised that State is the underdog, we’re talking a #1 Bama here, but a 24 point spread? I’d have put it at 9-12.
Ole Miss started as a 4.5 point underdog and the betting has pushed it to 6. That seems more inline with what I’ve seen from both teams this year, but I wouldn’t put money on that game. I think it could be a Ole Miss win or a crushing Ole Miss loss. I just don’t know how those two teams are going to stack up versus each other, or which Arkansas team is going to show up.
Thoughts?
Checking the predictions. MSU/UM
Now that we are at the half way point, I wanted to take a look at how my predictions are standing up. I think I did a pretty good job.
I predicted a 9-3 season for MSU, and a 4-8 season for Ole Miss, with caveats for best and worse case scenarios. I’m relieved that neither team is going to hit their worst case scenario, and both still have shots at their best case scenarios. Ole Miss is ALREADY at their predicted 4 wins, so any more are a huge step up from where I (and most everyone) thought they’d be at this point.
I still think MSU is going to win the Eggbowl this year, but Ole Miss has a good shot at 6-6 if they can beat Arkansas and Vanderbilt. I’d love to see the Rebels get a bowl this year (but not at State’s expense). As for State I’ll hold out hope for a 10-2 season, but I’m gonna be worried about the A&M and Arkansas games. A&M has some playmakers and while Arkansas has been truly awful at the beginning of the season they seem to be rallying a bit lately.
I’ll be honest about this. I did NOT see Auburn and Arkansas being as bad as they have been this year. It gives me hope that both Mississippi schools can beat both of those teams this year. And here’s to hoping LSU has an off night when they play one or both of our schools!
Generic Football Post
So far I’m 6 for 6 in my predictions for Mississippi State and Ole Miss football. I would crow about my eerily accurate predictive ability, except for the fact that almost everyone predicted the exact same results. Both teams are winning and losing as everyone expected. What I find frustrating, about both teams, is that I still have no idea how good either of them is.
MSU has beat, 3 very beatable teams, and very nearly lost their last game to Troy. How good is State? I have NO IDEA, but I wouldn’t have moved them into the top 25 after the Troy game. Did voters WATCH that game? It was horrible.
I can say the same about Ole Miss; they’ve beaten two very beatable teams, and lost big time, to what could possibly be a big time team. They could be a lot better than anyone thought, a lot worse, or about the same. Who can tell? If you can let me know!
So lets hear it folks, where do you think these teams stand? Do you think my pre-season predictions are still pretty good or bunk? I predicted MSU to go 9-3 and UM to go 4-8.
