For the second time this year non-essential personnel are being sent home from work, because the city of Jackson cannot maintain it’s water system. To the City of Jackson I say this, “Put some money in your fucking infrastructure you fucking dumbasses”. The ‘fucking’ lets you know I mean business. It’s a internet thing you see.
According to the WSJ Isner and Mahut have had to stop for the day after reaching 59-59 in the fifth set. Over 10 HOURS for one match. The whole thing is just crazy. Wimbledon fans must be having a blast!
PS: I only watched 4 minutes of the US vs Algeria game. Lucky for me it was the last 4 minutes. Those are the only ones that counted anyway. GO TEAM USA.
UPDATE: I have been informed that Isner finally won the match after 3 days of play 70-68. Anyone think either of these guys are going to be in any shape to play their NEXT match?
Tonight the wife and I ate at Logan’s Steak House. I had a New York strip and she had catfish. I asked for medium-well and got it a little burned around the edges. She got two HUGE fried fillets that she enjoyed, but couldn’t eat all of it. Cost was around $40. Not bad for steak, but I still haven’t had a steak eating out in Jackson that I didn’t think I could beat with my own cooking. That is about it for ‘things I can cook better than what I get at restaurants’. (Though Big A and Pat can do better brisket and general BBQ better than I have anywhere either.)
Now I’m settling down for the night with a Chardonnay (Hayes Ranch). I generally like red more than white and this holds true tonight. I’m no connoisseur of wines (and this is cheap stuff) so I can’t really describe it well. It’s a bit bland, sweet with a, not tart and not bite but something in between. flavor. I feel I drink too much Merlot so I’m trying something different tonight. You win some, you lose some. Tonight I’ll call it a tie.
You are awesome! Super awesome. REALLY! I mean it. But I am NOT gonna update you till you are on version 3.0.x at least.
Why you ask? Because I’m not an idiot.
What do you mean? Every X.0 version of software I’ve ever used has had bugs.
I’ll wait. Thanks for understanding.
I present to you the latest soccer odds from FiveThirtyEight. Gotta love statistics almost makes you think they know what’s going to happen.
The chances of the USA team to win it all has gone up!
…..from .65% to .93%…..(Yes that is .93% not 93%). USA! USA!USA!
I started asking the question after I heard about all the changes that could happen as early as later today. I can understand colleges changing conferences if the conference they are currently in isn’t meeting their needs, however, is this current round of changes being driven by all of a college’s athletics or just the big three (Basketball, Baseball, Football)? If Texas joins the Pac-10 (just as an example) their big three will prosper, surely, but what about softball or golf or all the other non-moneymaking sports at a college? Is the college really going to pay to ship their women’s equestrian team to play against Washington every year? Or the women’s softball team? Because if they aren’t that isn’t a proper change and not fair to the ‘poorer’ sports.
Could colleges split their athletics into ‘tiers’ and let the various tiers belong to different conferences? I could see splitting up the tiers thusly.
Tier 1: intramural.
This is who colleges let their ‘for fun’ leagues play against. Flag-football, co-rec softball and the like. This tier’s members don’t get scholarships. It is strictly ‘for fun’.
Tier 2: non-moneymaking scholarship based sports.
Now some of these sports may actually make money for the schools but most don’t. This tier contains things like tennis, golf, softball and the like. The players are strictly scholarship-ed students, and there should be equality of the sexes. Just as many scholarships for men and women.
Tier 3: The moneymakers. Basketball and Baseball.
This conference is for profit and the colleges join the one they think will make them the best bang for their buck. Question: Is there a women’s equivalent to baseball in college? Is softball it’s equivalent with regards to scholarships? This league is populated strictly with scholarshipped students (and there should be just as many scholarshipped men as women). And as such the students still cannot be paid. There are farm leagues for both sports (though not for womens softball as far as I know if it is the female equivalent of men’s baseball.)
Tier 4: Football.
This beast is just different than the other sports. There is no female equivalent sports team, and honestly I think as much money as is involved these should be semi-pro leagues. This ‘conference’ should include payed players and pay can include access to college but don’t call it scholarship, make it part of the ‘pay’. This should not count towards a college’s scholarship total. Let it go full force into what it basically already is, the NFL’s farm-league, but limit players to 4 years of eligibility(excluding redshirt) and anyone employed by the NFL as a player is ineligible.(No older players from the NFL coming back to dominate.)
First the general stupidity; Took a couple of co-workers to Best Buy yesterday during lunch so one of them could pick up something the boss needed. While there, Harry and I noticed they have one of those new 3D TV’s on display. This seems like a good idea, get the TV out there let people know what it can do. Just one problem. Best Buy didn’t put out any 3D glasses for people to watch the display. It’s a 3D TV. 3D TV’s need 3D glasses so you can see the 3D otherwise it just looks like a normal flat screen display that is incredibly fuzzy. Best Buy, FAIL!
Also, not a complete fail, but what is the point of non-functioning cell phones on display at Best Buy? I need to know more than, “Hey this device that is roughly the size of every other device with this functionality actually fit’s in my hand like every other device of this type! NEET!”
And now for the annoyance; Traffic lights that hold up traffic when there is NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! Look you guys put sensor plates in the road for a reason, use the damn things. Jackson is VERY VERY BAD about this. You’ll sit at a traffic light for up to a minute while it dutifully makes damn sure that the non-existant cross traffic gets their fair share of time.
I know it’s just one of those petty annoyances, but please do share some of your own. I’m thinking of making a list.
This page over on ‘The Oil Drum‘ has the latest information about the latest attempt by BP to shut down the oil gushing into the gulf. These guys seem to know what they are talking about. It’s actually kind of refreshing compared to the Mainstream News I’ve seen.
Sony is going to start offering HBO shows through the PlayStation 3. I’m not sure how this is worth it if you already have Netflix, (and therefor can already get the HBO DVDs) but if you don’t this has value. I would love to see some serious competition against the cable and satellite offerings keep coming in through the various consoles. The idea of watching only what I want, only on demand seems like a good thing. Might miss the occasional ‘just flip the channel’ night but I doubt it.
I’m not a big fan of Beck but even if I liked him I’d still find this send up funny.
