Pepito’s Grill

The wife and I checked out the third and newest Mexican restaurant within 1 mile of Dogwood last Friday. At first I was a bit worried because there were way too many non-Mexican staff, but my worries were quickly allayed. The salsa was good, the Margarita was full of Tequila (though I think too cold, was that frozen alcohol and not ice? DAMN COLD!), the service was quick and the food tasty. Wife got tacos (hey that’s actually what she said she wanted that night) and I got my usual “first time at a Mexican place safe bet” fajitas.

The wife enjoyed her tacos and I had enough chicken fajitas left over that I had to take some back in a doggie bag. They were good for lunch Saturday too! The entire meal was less than $30 so we’ll be going to Pepito’s again. If you are in the area it’s not like you lack for choice of Mexican but I’m thinking this place will do alright. The food is as good as the other two and it may even be the cheapest of the three.

Later days.

Update:  I have been informed that one of the differences between Pepito’s and the others is that Pepito’s doesn’t do Rita’ specials. So if that is important to you consider this your ‘heads up’.

Logans

Tonight the wife and I ate at Logan’s Steak House. I had a New York strip and she had catfish. I asked for medium-well and got it a little burned around the edges. She got two HUGE fried fillets that she enjoyed, but couldn’t eat all of it. Cost was around $40. Not bad for steak, but I still haven’t had a steak eating out in Jackson that I didn’t think I could beat with my own cooking. That is about it for ‘things I can cook better than what I get at restaurants’. (Though Big A and Pat can do better brisket and general BBQ better than I have anywhere either.)

Now I’m settling down for the night with a Chardonnay (Hayes Ranch).  I generally like red more than white and this holds true tonight. I’m no connoisseur of wines (and this is cheap stuff) so I can’t really describe it well. It’s a bit bland, sweet with a, not tart and not bite but something in between. flavor. I feel I drink too much Merlot so I’m trying something different tonight. You win some, you lose some. Tonight I’ll call it a tie.
